This Oracle Bone print is an homage to the search for my identity as a child of the asiatic diaspora. The commonalities in visual & visceral understanding & ancient knowledge held by people of color across the globe. The importance of looking to our roots for deeper understanding of self.

Oracle Bone is the original Chinese pictographs which came before Kanji. Like many 1st-gen diasporic children of immigrants, my parents never spoke to me in our mother tongue. When I was 6, I asked my parents to take me to chinese school, to which they said "Just ask Gramma." But Mama didn’t speak english, and at 6, I really wasn’t that driven. Being an ABC (American-Born Chinese), I’d only been exposed to Egyptian Heiroglyphs by way of a small chapter in a eurocentric ass history class. When I came across Oracle Bone, I saw similarities between other ancient melantated cultures’ known symbols for sun and stars. It made sense- there's always been a certain level of understanding amongst poc, it's embedded in our DNA. I studied these symbols a way to understand modern-day Chinese characters which evolved from these pictographs of my ancestors.
